Sector and Client Experience

Management, Leadership and General Management
As our people progress their careers they have a choice to remain as specialists or take on more management responsibilities starting as Team Leader and progressing to Departmental and Divisional Management. Management and Leadership Development programmes support these important career steps.
Career Development
Making a good start
Even the brightest of highfliers needs some help along the way. At Mizuho we like to develop our employees for their long-term success. This means that we have a range of activities that support the career progression of our people.
Early career development is supported by local and Corporate Induction that ensures newcomers understand our business culture and practices. After an initial time with the Bank, staff are encouraged to attend our Career Development Workshop that addresses the tools and techniques for managing one's own career in our context. We open up relationships with senior staff through our in-house mentoring programme. Continuous development is supported through a performance review and personal development planning process that helps staff build a track record of achievement based on effective feedback and ongoing personal development. A Global Learning Management System provides flexible online opportunities to learn at times convenient to our people.
Building a track record
Personal progression is achieved through building a portfolio of skills that help widen the abilities of our people. Our five Academies of Learning provide opportunities and resources to which all staff have access across a range of Personal Effectiveness, Professional and Technical, Business Development, Management and, finally, Leadership and General Management skills programmes. Qualification routes are supported through our Professional Development Subsidy Scheme. At more experienced management levels we join with other regions in development programmes based in our prestigious training centre in Tokyo.
Wider horizons
Being part of a Global Institution means that there are world wide opportunities for developing careers for those who wish to. Our support for Global Mobility extends to policies and practices that encourage the transfer of people to regions where opportunities exist (long term or shorter term) to develop their careers and impact on the organisation's development.
Our Head Office in Tokyo also provides shorter term opportunities to experience business and cultural differences through planned training experiences.
Values and Diversity Driven Culture
Our relatively recent formation as a global bank has led to us having a values driven approach to running our business. These values encompass all we do and act as the driving principles for how we behave with each other and our customers – the foundation of our culture.
In 'One Bank' these values drive our commercial relationships with our customers and govern the relationships between our staff.
We respect individual differences and our policies and programmes inform our behaviour when working with a variety of different cultures and countries as a global organisation.
